On the first weekend of July 2025, South Africa will celebrate the International Day of Cooperatives to give recognition and to raise awareness of the cooperative as a democratic form of business which promotes the principle of cooperation in business which assists to create new ethics and values in business and economics. This International Day of Cooperatives celebration event will be utilised in the country to recognize and reaffirm the role of cooperatives within economic, social and cultural development that fulfils the country’s social policy objectives.

    promote greater participation by black persons, especially those in rural areas, women, persons with disability and youth in the formation of and management of cooperatives.

    Facilitate the provision of support programmes that target co-operatives specifically cooperatives that create employment or benefit disadvantaged groups

    Improve communication between the three spheres of government and the co-operative movement
